- The NYU Africana Studies program is sponsoring a conference
entitled "Finding Fanon: Critical Genealogies", being
held at Tishman Auditorium at Vanderbilt Hall at NYU on Oct 11-12,
1996. Isaac Julien will be screening his film "Black
Skin, White Mask" at 7:30 pm on Friday Oct. 11th. Panel
discussions on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th will include:
Francoise Verges,Gayatri Spivak,Stuart Hall, Kobena Mercer, and
Ella Shohat.
- The English Institute at Harvard University held the
55th annual session Friday Oct. 11th, 1996. 2pm - Sun. Oct. 13,
1996 5pm at Longfellow Hall in Cambridge, MA. The conference
was entitled "Public Fantasy"; "What is the role
of fantasy in collective imagination-in the social institutions,
media
technologies, and aesthetics of identity that shape the public
sphere?" (from the "press" release)
